2a. Mission Statement: 
BRIC History and Mission BRIC/Brooklyn Information and Culture is a multidisciplinary cultural organization founded in 1979. BRIC fulfills its mission to present cultural, educational and media programs reflective of the borough’s diverse communities through our four signature programs: • Celebrate Brooklyn, a free summer long performing arts festival at the Prospect Park Bandshell. Recently named “Best Summer Series” by The Village Voice, New York Magazine and The New York Press, Celebrate Brooklyn presents dance, music, spoken word and film to a culturally diverse audience of over 200,000 people annually. • The Rotunda Gallery, a contemporary art gallery with an education program that reaches over 9,000 students and provides professional development for 550 teachers annually in 28 of Brooklyn’s most under-resourced schools. Each year, the Gallery presents four thematic exhibitions by Brooklyn-affiliated artists. • BCAT/Brooklyn Community Access Television/BCAT provides low-cost television production and media literacy training to over 400 Brooklyn residents annually; publicizes community events for over 900 non-profit organizations through the community calendar and cablecasts community-focused programming to 400,000 households; and • BRICstudio, a 75-seat black box theater that presents a combination of self-produced series and co-presentations with local arts groups, with an emphasis on experimental and cutting edge work. BRICstudio offers much needed affordable performance and event space for arts organizations and non-profits. In December 1999, BRIC moved to permanent offices on the second floor of the historic Strand Theater building in Fort Greene/Downtown Brooklyn. BRIC is working with the New York City Economic Development Corporation to purchase the Strand, a city-owned building at 647 Fulton Street where BRIC is currently a tenant. Our plan is to convert it into a mixed-use cultural facility with performance, rehearsal and exhibition space as well as classrooms for educational uses.
